Whale Song (We Never Saw the Ocean)
Art installation by RAINE YUNG with sound accompaniment for the closing performance by Michael Zerang
A conversation between lights on a carpet ocean. Found fluorescent fixtures, programmed in randomized on-off patterns, occasionally spell out phrases in Morse code. A found music box sets a seascape and its boats in motion. Unwound, the image stays still.
Morse code, light spoken by humans and passed through water, communicates distress without knowing who is listening.
