Improvised Music Workshop By Michael Zerang

$75/$60 for students and ESS members

Workshop is open to all adult instrumentalists (electronic and/or acoustic) that are proficient on their instruments and have had some performing experience in improvised contexts. Please only consider this workshop if you can attend every session.

The workshop will explore:

• aspects of physical mechanics and breathing
• hearing / listening explorations
• exploratory aspects of individual instruments – fundamentals of objects and tools
• extended techniques and explorations of texture and timbre
• imitative and responsive modes of improvisation
• telepathic and internally motivated modes of improvisation
• strategies for structured improvisation
• performance aspects from small to large groups
• social and political aspects of collective music-making
